Description

The Student Development Instructor – Mathematics will play a key role in enhancing students’ foundational and advanced skills in Mathematics at TCF College. The role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons, providing individualized support, and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. The instructor will also work closely with the Student Development and Academics teams to design interventions, track progress, and ensure students are well-prepared for intermediate exams as well as university admissions tests. This position requires strong subject knowledge, a passion for teaching, and the ability to motivate students to achieve their full potential.

  • Teach foundation classes in Mathematics, incorporating basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus concepts.
  • Conduct regular classes with progressive improvement towards intermediate and advanced mathematical proficiency.
  • Improve students’ quantitative reasoning and problem- solving skills through classroom interventions, strategies, and content.
  • Develop the curriculum including student packs, assessments, exercises, and practice material.
  • Design lesson plans for classes, incorporating effective strategies, examples, and activities to strengthen conceptual understanding.
  • Understand requirements of various aptitude tests (ECAT, BCAT, SAT Math, etc.) to incorporate into curriculum and teaching strategies geared towards exam success and tertiary admissions.
  • Design and check assessments and aptitude tests to ascertain student progress, provide student feedback, and strategize for improvement.
  • Develop supplementary activities and learning aids to improve mathematical thinking.
  • Contribute to student development activities that involve quantitative and analytical skills.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of Mathematics concepts and teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to simplify complex problems and explain concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with aptitude test patterns (ECAT, BCAT, SAT Math, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • A great work ethic and a knack for continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelors or Masters in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field from a reputable institute.

Experience

01-year teaching or tutoring experience with university aptitude tests/ECAT/BCAT/SAT required.
